Award-winning Documentary Filmmaker Ken Burns Is 2016 Rose Parade Grand Marshal

A number of weeks ago at technical float testing at Phoenix Adorning Company, Examiner was speaking with Match of Roses Pres. Mike Matthiessen about whom he may choose to be the Grand Marshal of the 127th Rose Parade on Jan. 1, 2016. When the president makes the announcement, he said, "The last thing you wish to hear is ‘Who?’" The next to the last thing is "Why?"

Matthiessen didn’t hear both of those responses when he named his selection for Grand Marshal at Event Home on Tuesday morning. Ken Burns, the recipient of scores of awards for his hbo documentaries 2016 (http://fulldocumentary.tumblr.com), together with the 2010 Emmy for Outstanding Non-Fiction Series The Nationwide Parks: America’s Finest Idea, was "on the listing from the get-go," Matthiessen told Examiner.com after the ceremony.

Burns’ schedule didn't allow him to attend the announcement, but he expressed his awe at the honor in a video presentation. "I'd by no means have imagined getting to look at the Rose Bowl Sport as Grand Marshal," he said. "I’ll see you in Pasadena and in considered one of our parks."

The 127th Rose Parade is a collaboration between the Tournament of Roses and the Nationwide Parks Service, which is celebrating its a hundredth anniversary. Matthiessen mentioned that his theme, "Find Your Journey," finally led to the choice of Burns for Grand Marshal. "[Burns] has taken an adventure and turned it right into a passion," he said.

"The Rose Parade is an annual tradition woven into the fabric of America, so it’s such an honor to be chosen because the Grand Marshal," Burns stated within the media release. "I’ve by no means been to the Parade in person, so this shall be a new adventure for me. I’m wanting forward to sharing the experience with my household and all of the followers of the Rose Parade who might be watching on New Yr’s Day."

The 2016 Rose Parade might be a big event for PBS. Burns has made more than dozen documentaries for PBS, from Brooklyn Bridge to the upcoming movies Jackie Robinson and Vietnam. As well as, probably the most standard dramas on PBS, Downton Abbey, is going to be featured within the type of a Rose Parade float. The National Parks sequence can be rebroadcast in April.
